Corn is a very popular food item enjoyed the world over. Many people love its taste and it’s been used in many dishes. From snacks like popcorn to the classic Pinoy dish “nilagang baka”, corn has been a staple food for many cultures and people.
Yet there are some people that claim that corn isn’t very healthy for you. Although some have said that corn is full of vitamins and antioxidants. In fact some of these people have sworn off corn entirely!
However, there are 6 reasons why people should never eat corn again:
1. Corn is not a vegetable
Corn is actually a type of grain, full of starch and high in sugar content. It also happens to be one of first genetically modified foods available.
2. It has the ability to activate Autoimmune diseases
Corn doesn’t contain any gluten yet can be very irritating to the gut lining. This confuses your body which in turn causes disruptions to the immune system.
3. It can’t be fully digested
According to Health.com, corn can’t be fully digested by the human digestive system because of the fiber cellulose it contains. Humans lack the necessary enzymes needed to break down cellulose. That’s why sometimes whole pieces of corn remain intact in human waste.
4. Corn contains Lectins
Lectins are another type of protein humans can’t digest. When they pass through our gut completely undigested, then this can damage the gut and cause inflammation.
5. Corn is usually loaded with pesticides
Much of the corn sold today is not organically grown thus it is full of insecticide and other poisons.
6. It contains harmful Omega-6
Omega-3 is a fatty acid that helps the human body with its anti-inflammatory properties. Omega-6 is the opposite in that it actually causes inflammation. Corn contains Omega-6.
Too much Omega-6s in the body causes it to lose its ability to control an inflammatory response. This means the body becomes more prone to health issues like asthma, diabetes, cancer, immune disease, increased cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease.
